12th Regional Observer Coordinators Workshop12row

The 12th Regional Observer Coordinators Workshop (ROCW 12) is currently held in Nuku’alofa, hosted by the Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Forests and Fisheries and coordinated and funded by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA). The workshop was opened by the Hon. Minister for Agriculture and Food, Forests and Fisheries, Lord Vaea, at the Loumaile Lodge Conference Centre on Monday 13th February and blessings by Rev. Lomu and the Evangelist Choir of the Free Wesleyan Church.........more on the story......

Public Notice - Aqua Areas

The Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture & Food, Forests and Fisheries would like to invite any person who has any issue regarding the proposed aquaculture areas (click on aquaculture areas to view) to lodge your concern in writing to the Head of Fisheries not later than Monday 27th of February 2012.

The Royal Agrcultural Show - 2011

showAfter 8 years from the last Royal Agricultural Fisheries and Industrial Show. Fisheries Division fully participated at Royal Agricultural, Fisheries and Industrial Show 2011.   This RAFIS was conducted in each island group except the 2 Niuas. The confirmed date for 2011 RAFIS were as follows: ‘Eua (16th  September), Tongatapu (14th , 15th , 16th  October), Vava’u  (11th September ) and Ha’apai (2nd December). This show proved an important event in terms of promoting awareness the importance of fisheries for food security and improve the social and economic well-being of the people of Tonga as well as economic growth.  It was also  an educational events for primary schools and high schools students.
There was strong support from the private sectors, fishers and youth groups through sponsorship and provision of exhibits for competition and non competition. 
In the conclusion of the 2011 Royal Agricultural Fisheries and Industrial Show, Fisheries express our appreciation for all the generous donations from private sectors contributed towards the prizes for 2011 Royal Agricultural Fisheries and Industrial Show. Their contributions and Government budget made it possible to arrange the 2011 Royal Agricultural Fisheries and Industrial Show in such a way as attractive and appealing to all people of Tonga.
